New England III

August 4-25

Larry Gordon, Carl Linich, Eva Primack

The stunning harmonies of east European folk songs and the music of Caucasus Georgia will be featured in this session. With his deep knowledge of the Georgian repertoire and patient coaching skills, Car is always inspirational. He will bring an exciting set of Georgian songs, with ample opportunity for trio and solo singing. Village Harmony welcomes Eva Primack, a fabulous young singer from the California women’s ensemble Kitka, as she shares with the group a variety of Balkan repertoire, both traditional and arranged—including songs from Albania, Turkey, Macedonia and Bulgaria. And you can count on Larry to add just the perfect balance of traditional American shape-note songs and instrumentally-accompanied renaissance works to round out the program magnificently.

3-week long traveling performance camp, beginning with an 8-day rehearsal period, during which the group will learn a concert repertoire. Following the rehearsal retreat, the group goes on a concert tour.

The retreat center is in a newly renovated century old barn and includes a large open hardwood floor surrounded by windows, a dining area, couch area, and woodstove. Off this main room are three shared dorm rooms, each with four large beds, two full shared baths, and a fully equipped kitchen, including eating dishes and utensils. On the lower floor, near the pond, garden, and sheep pen, are two more dorm rooms, with three beds each, and a shared full bath. The 120 acres of land surrounding the center includes open fields, forests with trails, ponds for swimming, and a hilltop with magnificent views of the Green Mountains.
