2006 Summer Camps
Germany
July 14-August 2
Larry Gordon , Matlakala Bopape, Stefan Trenner
A marvelous opportunity to travel in some of the most beautiful parts of Germany—Bavaria along the Danube River, Allgaü on the edge of the Alps, Lake Constance—and really get to know the people as well as the landscape, with homestays at every stop. Rehearsal week will be in a charming retreat center in the gorgeous countryside near Viechtach in the Bavarian Forest near the Czech border.
The camp will feature a wonderfully-varied mix of music. Matlakala Bopape, who has taught at Village Harmony camps in Italy, England, the US and South Africa since 2000, will bring her ever-popular repertoire of traditional South African songs and dances. Stefan Trenner, an accomplished choir leader, organist and composer from Regensberg, will lead the group in an early baroque set as well as teaching some of his own shape-note inspired compositions—in German. And Larry will round out the program with a mixture of American and Balkan traditional songs. Singers who play instruments are especially encouraged to apply to this camp, to play in a baroque band and for Bulgarian dance songs for the concert program.
