2006 Summer Camps
Caucasus Mountain Village Expedition
October 16-21
John Wurdeman & Mindia Tsiklauri
A guided outing for more rugged singers, this will be a five-day long excursion to visit ancient Georgian villages in the eastern high Caucasus region of Khevsureti. A combination of mountain tenting and village homestays, with transportation by jeep and on foot (and on horseback, for riders). Highland villages with buildings over 500 years old. Demonstrations of traditional fencing and other martial arts, as well as folk music and dance. An intense experience to provide a window into a fast-disappearing medieval Georgia for those willing to endure what might be sometimes rough and primitive conditions. Khevsureti is sparsely populated today with an inexorably declining population, which makes now the time to experience this fragile and extraordinary mountain culture.
Transportation provided from Sighnaghi to Khevsureti, with return to Tbilisi.
